As a Kindergarten Teacher, creating a useful course for my students would be
pretty hard to do. After thinking about somethign that would be useful in my
field, I have landed on the area of Phonics and Phonemic Awareness Education. As
a P-5 Education student, I was taught very little about these topics. When I was
plunged into a Kindergarten position, I quickly learned the improtance of the
aspects at this grade level as well as in 1st & 2nd Grade.
With that being said, I am proposing to develop a course centered on
Professional Developement for Primary Teachers that focuses on the importance of
Phonemic Awareness and Phonics Instruction. It will provide information on how
to effectively teach these subject matters to students and will give learners
helpful resources, websites and authentic experiences regarding the topic. I am
calling this course PHO 101. (Phonics/Phoemic Awareness 101)
I love the idea of doing a professional development. Are you planning to actually try to offer the course? I'm sure the administration in your school or district would love to use any materials you create.
ReplyDeleteThe other part I'd like to see would be a section on application. Your students will be aware of phonics, but your course will have greater impact if you give them something to do about it.
